Spa 101 is a 4-CE-hour professional development refresher designed for licensed massage therapists who work in — or aspire to work in — spa environments. The course addresses a documented gap between massage school fundamentals and the real-world demands of thriving in shared spa settings, whether boutique, day spa, resort, medical, or franchise. Subject matter spans 13 sequential modules covering: professional mindset, appearance, and hygiene standards; treatment room setup and environmental design; the science of sensory relaxation and parasympathetic activation; client greeting, verbal and written intake, informed consent, and contraindication screening; draping technique, safety, and legal compliance; carrier oils, essential oils, dilution ratios, and allergen awareness; hot towel therapy applications and safety protocols; body scrub and exfoliation fundamentals; couples massage coordination and professional conduct; shared workspace sanitation and OSHA bloodborne pathogen awareness; small business and corporate spa navigation; therapist body mechanics and self-care; and advanced session techniques, timing, and professional signature development. Information is presented as self-paced, text-based home study with supporting images, delivered through guided reading across 13 sequential modules in a 100% didactic format. Each module concludes with a 5-question multiple-choice quiz requiring an 80% passing score to advance. The course culminates in a 25-question comprehensive final examination requiring an 80% passing score. Participants who pass the final exam receive a Certificate of Achievement. Participants will gain immediately applicable knowledge for delivering consistent, safe, and exceptional spa massage services — protecting both their clients and their professional license.
